Team Effectiveness Questionnaire - First Steps Training & Development,
Inc.
Team Effectiveness Questionnaire (TEQ)
The TEQ, now available in versions 1.0 and 2.0 in either paper or online
formats, provides the data you need for focused and effective team
development. It measures your team against the
five
essential attributes of a high performing team. It
provides a snapshot of the team in its current stage of development
and pinpoints opportunities for improvement. Administered to all
members of the team, the TEQ is an excellent tool for promoting
discussion and designing team development initiatives.

Features/Benefits |
TEQ 1.0
© Matt Starcevich,
PhD |
- 50 items in "True/False" format: quicker and
easier for team members to complete.
- Measures the team against the five essential
attributes of a high performing team; identifies
which area(s) is most in need of attention.
- Utilizes "negative" language, e.g., "The people
on our team do not care deeply about our purpose and
direction." "It is hard for team members to
provide input and influence the leader of my team."
For teams where morale is already low, team members
can more easily identify with the sentiments.
- If team members are reluctant to "bring up the
issues," the assessment's forced choice format (an
item is either basically true or basically false)
pushes the group to take a stand and identify its
chief concerns.

- 110 items rated on a 1-10 scale + 2 items short
answer
- Assesses the team on discrete categories within
the five essential attributes, e.g., under
"Direction," 5 items specifically address "Core
Mission, Vision and Values" and an additional 11
items consider the team's "Objectives."
"Processes" are further sub-divided and examined
under the headings "Meetings," "Decision-Making,"
"Conflict Resolution," etc.
- Employs "positive" language, e.g., " Our team
has a written mission statement." "I believe
our objectives are reasonable and obtainable."
- The assessment's greater length and depth, as
well as it Lickert-scale format, provide for a more
detailed and nuanced understanding of the team's
perception of its strengths and issues.
