FOCUSED COMMUNICATION SKILLS

WORKSHOP OVERVIEW

Communication is the basic skill that all supervisors, leaders and team members require to be successful.  Yet, few people understand the process of communication.  The Focused Communication Skills workshop investigates the process of communication and the specific communication tools, such as listening, questioning, and feedback, needed for mutual understanding.

Unfortunately, people don’t want to be treated the same, and communication that is appropriate with one person can fail miserably with another.  The Focused Communication Skills workshop shows how to modify one’s communication style to the needs of the listener, so that one’s message is heard, understood and acted upon.

OBJECTIVES

During the workshop the participants investigate the communications process and its impact on their ability to effectively empower and supervise workers.

In addition, the participants develop an understanding of their own communication styles and those of their direct reports; they learn how to modify their communication styles to optimize information transfer.

At the completion of the workshop, the participants will be able to:

• Use the proper communications tools to give instructions and ensure that those instructions are understood
• Understand the communication dynamics inherent in their interactions with direct reports
• Modify their message to address the particular needs of each style.

DURATION

The Focused Communication Skills workshop typically requires six hours, plus 15 minutes of online pre-work.
