The Team Meeting
Teams must meet to accomplish much of their work. Unfortunately, the meeting process itself often ensures that the meeting will run overlong, get side-tracked and produce fewer results than the time investment justifies.
A Reality-Based Technology, the Team Meeting workshop teaches the team how to plan and conduct meetings that achieve specific objectives and do so as efficiently as possible. Participants learn:
- Who to invite (and not invite) to the meeting
- How to "set up" their attendees for focused participation
- How to structure their meetings to resolve the most pressing issues
- How to drive the meeting content
- How to manage meeting participants
- How to recognize and avoid meeting pitfalls
- How to ensure accountabilities following the meeting, so that the work continues to progress
- How to evaluate the meeting, so that meetings continue to improve over time
- How to prepare for future meetings
- Which meetings they can (and should) remove from their schedules
During the workshop, team members conduct a "practice" meeting to decide on future meeting run rules. They then conduct a meeting to accomplish real work, with instructor coaching and feedback.
